The city of Berlin has a rich cinematic history which combines with its ever-present remnants of the past, and energetic, innovative visions of the future to create a rich urban fabric. The Filmhaus project is a proposal for a school that educates students about all aspects of filmmaking. It explores the emotion, narrative and juxtaposition of image and sound, connecting the individual spaces and processes of filmmaking - screenwriting, filming, editing, recording, screening - into a journey that fosters learning and creativity in aspiring filmmakers who seek to expand and explore their potential. Berlin, a patchwork city, provides the ideal backdrop, allowing the building to synthesize old and new, integrate and reconcile differing urban grains and becoming an open and collaborative space that engages with the community.
